John is Board President of the 56-unit downtown Toronto condominium where he has resided and sat on the Board since 2004.
In spring 2016, John worked with Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Toronto in support of their community agency membership review process. He worked with a small charity offering housing and life skills training to young women.
John sat on the Hospice Toronto Young Carers Program Advisory Council 2010-2011. The program seeks to celebrate and support young carers through a variety of programs. A young carer is someone 18 or younger who provides a substantial amount of care to a family member on a regular basis. The family member may be a parent, sibling, grandparent or other relative, and may need extra care due to a life threatening or chronic illness, a mental illness, a physical disability, a substance addiction, or because they are a newcomer to Canada and have a language barrier. Started more than 20 years ago, Hospice Toronto was Toronto’s first not for profit, volunteer-based, in-home hospice palliative care program. He first visited Ronald McDonald House Toronto in the mid nineties. John showed up to offer administrative help to a longtime friend who was the organization's first Director of Fundraising. It was love at first sight for John and his volunteer involvement increased over time to include everything from assisting with the creation of communications collateral to weekend operations management. John was overjoyed when he was hired to replace the outgoing House Manager in 1996. Visit http://rmhtoronto.org to learn more about Ronald McDonald House Toronto or make a donation.
